Scenic and Destination Hikes Adirondack High Peaks
Rt 73, just south of Marcy Airfield
Length: a 4.6 mile round trip
Blueberry Mountain is a gateway to Cascade and Porter Mountains, two of the Adirondack High Peaks. It is typically hiked by itself though and not in conjunction with the High Peaks. There are three approaches to the summit of Blueberry but the one shown and described below is most recommended.
The Marcy Field Trail is nearly 2.5 miles and starts out, for a short distance, along an old woods road before entering a forest of mainly hardwoods. The climb starts out a bit moderate but soon approaches a steep, steady climb. There are several different opportunities for views along the climb. There are excellent views from the top, with a unique summit sitting atop an 8-foot erratic.
The trail to Porter Mountain continues over the summit into the valley below for those interested.
The trailhead is at the back of the parking area.
Easy hike turns into steep climb, plan on 2.5 hours to summit with children. Not recommended for out of shape hiker.
