For bikers, it’s approximately 1 hr 30 min to Carter Station from the North Street Recreation Center.
Start out on snowmobile trail 1 to intersection 8P, turn right to trial 9 at intersection 8. Follow trail 9 to Carter Station. It’s easy to moderate bike riding on dirt roads. Carter Station is a restored and maintained (though unoccupied) station house, one of several operated in the early 1900s by the New York Central Railroad. (Thendara Station and Big Moose Station are others.) Currently, it is the northern terminus of the Adirondack Scenic Railroad out of Thendara Station, and the place where the Mountain Bike Train excursion disembarks.
Leaving Carter Station, take trail 9 (Carter Road) out of Carter Station across Moose River Bridge to intersection 20. Turn right on trail 5 to Steel Bridge at intersection 19; continue straight across bridge on trail 8 over hill to intersection 22. Turn left on trail 3 to intersection 3, then left on trail 1 back to North St. Rec Center. It’s approximately 1hr 35 min from Carter Station on bikes.
