Mount Van Hoevenberg, from north
Scenic and Destination Hikes Adirondack Park Region
Trail Head:
Rt 73 to Bobsled Run Lane
Length: a 2.4 mile round trip
Difficulty: Moderate
Activities: hiking
Mt. Van Hoevenberg can be reached from the south or north, a moderate level climb coming from either direction. Mt. VanHoevenberg's North Side is home to the Verizon Sports Complex and hosted events for the 1932 and 1980 Olympic Games. While the north side of the mountain does not offer a wilderness setting, one would not know it by hiking up the south side. The south side is truly wild.1
From the north approach, the climb to the top follows the twists and turns of the new state-of-the-art combined bobsled-luge-skeleton track. Near the upper start building, a 1.2 mile roundtrip trail leads to the summit ledges for a great view of the High Peaks.2
